Once you have cleaned the office out and the retirement party is over, it is most important to learn how to enjoy retired life. The life you live after your career can be just as much, or even more, fulfilling than the one you had before.

1. Prepare for retirement as early as you can. Begin speaking with financial advisors when you get your first job instead of waiting ten years before your retirement date. If you do wait, you may have to put more money into an account or work longer to better enjoy retired life.
2. Decide what kind of retired life you want. The type of enjoyment gained from retired life is different for each person. Decide if you want to spend a lot of time traveling or if you will be spending your time closer to home taking classes or spending time with friends and family. Your decisions may mean you need to save more or it could mean the difference between retiring earlier or later.
3. Take care of your health. You cannot enjoy retired life if you are too sick. Take care of your mental and physical health so that you are healthy enough to do the things you want to do and have many years in which to do them.
4. Think about downsizing your home. Depending on what you are wanting to do to enjoy retired life you may want to consider downsizing your home and life. Downsizing can keep you from having to spend time mowing or cleaning a house that is too large for two people, and allow you to spend more time and money doing what you want.
5. Spend time with people to enjoy retired life. Retirement gives you the time to make connections with people. You may want to spend more time with your children and grandchildren or you may want to volunteer for organizations and connect with people you have never met.

Then Congress said, “How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?” So they created a Q.C. position and hired two people, one GS-9 to do the studies and one GS-11 to write the reports.
Then Congress said, “How are these people going to get paid?” So they created the following positions, a timekeeper (GS-09) and a payroll officer (GS-11) and hired two people.
Then Congress said, “Who will be accountable for all of these people?”
So they created an administrative position and hired three people: an Admin. Officer (GM-13), an Assistant Admin. Officer (GS-13) and a Legal Secretary (GS-08).
Then Congress said, “We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $18,000 over budget, we must cutback overall cost,” so they laid off the night watchman.
