An Open letter to Anna - Be the Politician you want to see
Respected Anna,
Jeramji ki,
It is heartening to note that you
have decided to break fast. I appeal you
not to fast again and again, fasting is a Brahmastra in Non Violent social
movements and such vital weapon should be used sparsely. There are several other
reasons also. Ours is a nation which believes in forgetting all good, bad and
ugly events, is selfish & have let go attitude, where thousands die daily
due to carelessness, has been cheated by its own politicians who are tyrants. When
we sum it all up, one can easily conclude that this nation needs you badly for
at least 10 more years in robust health. God forbid but if you die fasting the
nation is not going to remember you for very long. Half of the people does not
even know full name of Father of our Nation. Forget Gandhiji, most of us don’t even
know our own great grand father’s name. Any supreme sacrifice stirs the soul of
this nation only momentarily. Kasab is more popular than the Policeman Mr.
Tukaram Ombale who sacrificed his life while catching him alive. Government has
spent several times more money on security of Kasab compared to rehabilitation of
affected people and police personnel’s families. Kargil war widows’ tears were
not even dried when our Prime Minister was having a lavish five course meal
with Pervez Musharraf, chief conspirator of Kargil war who visited Agra within
2 years of war for an unsuccessful peace summit.
Your first fast has stirred the
soul of the nation. Everyone recognized and chanted “Vande Mataram, Bande me Hai Dum”
and that was enough. There is a famous law in Economics which is knows as “Law
of Diminishing Returns” which tells that repetitively use of same thing gives reducing
returns from each extra unit and excessive use may even result in negative
returns. You must remember that this government is full of Economists. They may
not know anything else about Economics (otherwise our Economy would have been a
lot better!) but they definitely know this elementary law, because the same law
is going to haunt them in next elections. Third time same government, difficult
to digest! So it is far easy to throw them out in the next elections partly due
to application of this immortal law of Economics and largely with proper
strategies in place.
One more important lesson we must
learn from our two most important wars and respective strategies adopted to win
those wars.
In Mahabharata, Lord Krishna
advised Pandva’s to go for war because he knew that they are fighting tyrant,
corrupt and insensitive rulers. Any non violent movement of Pandva’s would have
been a cause of celebration for Kaurvas.
In fight against the British,
Mahatma Gandhi, a devotee of Lord Krishna, adopted “Non Violence” strategy
because earlier armed coups against Brits have failed miserably. But the Brits
were far more sensitive, ethical, disciplined and rational people compared to
present political class in India so the strategy of “Non Violence” paid off.
Violence of Mahabharata and non
violence of Mahatma Gandhi both are not going to work beyond a point in the
present set up. Maoists do not enjoy any sympathy however noble be the cause
they are fighting for and frequent fasts of you and your team can’t shake up
the tyrants. Neither can it be fought on streets alone as the laws are made in
Parliament. This is the fight against our own insensitive political
establishment. However bad they are, fortunately, they believe in
democracy. Therefore, adopt the VOTE
route, which is the most feared weapon by our politicians. Don’t ever forget
1977 debacle of congress. It took less than 6 months and no money to create
Janta Party. Top of that, Communists and BJP, diehard enemies of each other, were
parts of it! It is different that the same Janta Party kept on breeding parties
after parties for years. In that historic election Indira Gandhi and Sanjay
Gandhi were the prominent losers.
This weapon of VOTE is a great
humbler and has crushed all our larger than life political personalities such
as Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, Atal Behari Vajpayee etc at
least once in their life time. Rahul Gandhi is still wondering why he lost face
in UP despite having tasteless food and sleepless nights with poor in their
huts. So the current crop of rootless and ruthless politicians is nothing great
and you have enough time to finish them in next elections.
You need to invest your energy in
creating a viable political alternative; the whole nation is willing to rally
behind you but only if it is convinced.
Remember Nitish Kumar is product
of JP movement so is Laloo, but people have now developed the ability to
differentiate between performer and non performer. Therefore, there is no need
to be hopeless about the future of this great nation. Your movement has
potential to produce more Kumars and less Laloos.
As a part of your strategy
prepare a list of at least 100 MOST UNWANTED MPs in next Loksabha. MPs having political
& intellectual arrogance, criminal and corrupt back ground should be made
part of this list. The list with full details should be prominently displayed
in all your media activity, website and social networking sites to create
atmosphere against them in next election. Find out alternative for them and
start working on ground to defeat these people. Believe me, more than 50% of
them will be denied tickets from there respective parties due to negative
publicity and resultant fear of loss and remaining will lose elections due to
your efforts.
We have seen in recent past that
even parties with single digit strength in Loksabha are able to create enormous
pressure. Hence your 25 people too can do miracle.
Be the change agent for the
change you want, don’t expect changes in the present political class only time
will change them.
One poor voter
