FRIENDSHIP

TRUE FRIENDS ARE RARE AND KEEP THEM WITH CARE

Long ago, there lived a little boy named Sammy. He was a good boy. He was good in his studies, obedient to his parents, more intelligent than many other boys in his class and kind to everyone. Grown-ups as well as those junior to Sammy loved him very much. But that aroused jealousy in many other boys who longed to be as loved as Sammy.

Now there was another boy named Timmy who studied in the same class as Sammy. Unlike Sammy, he was not good at studies and always liked to play during school hours. He misbehaved with his parents, bullied his classmates and even ill-treated Sammy. He always tried to put Sammy down and belittled him before other kids in the class. But no matter what he did, Sammy's grades kept getting better and better. Whether in studies or in sports or from his classmates, Sammy kept getting accolades from everywhere.

On his eighth birthday, Sammy got a nice pen as a gift from his parents. He brought it to school so that he could use it to take down the notes of the lectures that the teachers gave in class. This was a very beautiful pen and it could help one write very fast. When Timmy saw it, he was very jealous of Sammy. He asked Sammy,

"Hey, where did you get that? Did you buy it?"

"My parents gave it as a birthday gift to me." replied Sammy.

Timmy was overwhelmed with anger and jealousy. The bad boy that he was, he rarely got any present from his parents. He decided to steal Sammy's pen. During recess, when everyone had gone out from the class, Timmy opened Sammy's bag and took out his pen. Then he hid it inside his bag and went out to have his tiffin.

When Sammy came back and could not find his pen, he informed his class teacher about it. There was a hunt for the missing pen and the class teacher ordered the class monitor to search the bag of every children inside the class. The missing pen was soon found out of Timmy's bag and the furious teacher asked the errant boy,

"Now Timmy, what do you have to say about it?"

Timmy was in tears. He had nothing to say.

When Sammy saw Timmy cry, he took pity on the boy. The kind boy that he was, he had no ill-feeling against his classmate. He requested his class teacher not to take any action against Timmy, now that his stolen pen was found.

This opened Timmy's eyes. He could now see what a good boy Sammy was. He asked for forgiveness from his teacher and Sammy. From that day, he became friends with Sammy and gradually changed himself to be as good as Sammy. Everyone began to love Timmy and Sammy was proud of his new friend.

Despite being hurt by Timmy, Sammy gave him back only love in return. This is how we should also treat our enemies. Who knows? One day, our behaviour may just change themselves for the better.

Moral: Do not harm someone even if he harms you. Be good to all.

LORD GANESH AND THE RIVER BANK

When I was a small boy I used accompany my mother to the river side and
while mother was washing the cloth i used to wander here and there near the
river bank . I have seen Lord Ganesh was sitting under the banyan tree . I have
seen the same scene when i have visited my uncle's place near the bank of the
river Cauvery the idol of Lord vigneswar was under the banyan tree. I have
asked my mother 'Why lord vigneswar is sitting under banyan tree near all the rivers"?
My mother said " Lord ganesh is fond of his mother very much and he likes to have
his bride like his mother that is the reason he is sitting on the banks of the rivers
in search of suitable bride like his mother where most of the women were having
the habbit of washing and bathing . i dont know how far this story is true and in my
opinion the reason is believable

THE TWO FARMERS

                             THE TWO FARMERS
Sri Ramakrishna: "Let me tell you a story about strong renunciation. At one time there was a drought in a certain part of the country. The farmers began to cut long channels to bring water to their fields. One farmer was stubbornly determined. He took a vow that he would not stop digging until the channel connected his field with the river. He set to work.

The time came for his bath, and his wife sent their daughter to him with oil. 'Father,' said the girl, 'it is already late. Rub your body with oil and take your bath.' 'Go away!' thundered the farmer. 'I have too much to do now.' It was past midday, and the farmer was still at work in his field. He didn't even think of his bath. Then his wife came and said: 'Why haven't you taken your bath? The food is getting cold.

You overdo everything. You can finish the rest tomorrow or even today after dinner.' The farmer scolded her furiously and ran at her, spade in hand, crying: 'What? Have you no sense? There's no rain. The crops are dying. What will the children eat? You'll all starve to death. I have taken a vow not to think of bath and food today before I bring water to my field.'

The wife saw his state of mind and ran away in fear. Through a whole day's back-breaking labour the farmer managed by evening to connect his field with the river. Then he sat down and watched the water flowing into his field with a murmuring sound. His mind was filled with peace and joy. He went home, called his wife, and said to her, 'Now give me some oil and prepare me a smoke.'

With serene mind he finished his bath and meal, and retired to bed, where he snored to his heart's content. The determination he showed is an example of strong renunciation. "Now, there was another farmer who was also digging a channel to bring water to his field. His wife, too, came to the field and said to him: 'It's very late. Come home.

It isn't necessary to overdo things.' The farmer didn't protest much, but put aside his spade and said to his wife, 'Well, I'll go home since you ask me to.' (All laugh) That man never succeeded in irrigating his field. This is a case of mild renunciation. "As without strong determination the farmer cannot bring water to his field, so also without intense yearning a man cannot realize God."

KING VIKRAMADITYAS VERDICT

KING VIKRAMADITYA AND HIS JUDGEMENT
In the Court of Indra there were four beautiful dancers-Urvasi, Rambha, Menaka and Tilottama. One day there was a dispute between Urvasi and Rambha as to who was the better dancer. They carried the dispute to Devendra, the God of gods, and asked him to decide between them.

Indra ordered them to adorn themselves and to dance before him and the Devas and Sapta Rishis in his court. Rambha and Urvasi accordingly gave a brilliant performance of Bharata Natyam. Both of them danced so well that neither Indra nor the Devas were able to decide who was the better dancer.

The sage Narada then rose and said to Indra, "None of the Devas is able to say whether Rambha or Urvasi is the better dancer. There is only one person who can judge this matter correctly. He is king Vikramaditya, who rules over Ujjain. He is well versed in all the arts. He is wise, just and fair. Send for him and let him judge between Rambha and Urvasi."

Indra was pleased with Narada's words. He sent for his charioteer Matali and said, "Take my chariot down to the earth and seek out king Vikramaditya in Ujjain. Tell him that I desire to see him and bring him here."

Matali drove Indra's golden chariot down to the Earth, and met Vikramaditya at his palace. He gave Indra's message to the king. The king looked at Bhatti, who was standing by his side, as if to inquire, "Shall I accept the invitation?"

Bhatti at once understood the king's unspoken question and answered, "You must accept this invitation. It is clear that your fame has spread to Indraloka. It seems to me that some great good will come out of your visit to Indraloka. So prepare to start with Matali."

Vikramaditya adorned himself as befitted a great king. He then armed himself fully and went with Bhatti to the temple of Kali. They worshipped the goddess, who blessed them.

The king then went to the waiting chariot and set foot on it. Matali disliked the idea of taking a mortal to the abode of the Devas. He therefore wanted put Vikramaditya to shame and tried to start the chariot at a furious speed. The king guessed Matali's intension and pressed his foot firmly down on the chariot. The chariot could not start. Matali grew ashamed and asked pardon of the king for having thought low of him.

Soon the chariot carried Vikramaditya to Indraloka. The Lord Indra received him with great honour. Vikramaditya was treated with great courtesy during his stay in Indraloka. He used to go to Indra's Court every day and watch the dances.

One day Indra called him aside and said, "Your mastery of the arts is well known to us. We know, too, that you are a keen judge of the finer points in the art of dancing. You would be doing me a great favour by being present in the court and giving your decision as to who is the better dancer-Rambha and Urvasi."

Vikramaditya said that he would judge the performance of the dancers the next day. That evening he went to Indra's garden and gathered some beautiful flowers. He made two bouquets out of them. Inside the two bouquets he placed wasps and other insects.

The next evening the court of Indra presented a grand appearance. Rambha and Urvasi came beautifully dressed and began their performance. Both of them danced so well that it was hard to choose between them. Vikramaditya called them to his seat and presented a bouquet to each. He then said, "Your dance would appear more attractive if you hold a bouquet in the hand." They were both pleased.

The dance was continued. In the excitement of the competition, Rambha crushed the bouquet in her hand. The insects came out and stung her hand. She was forced to throw away the bouquet, and the remaining part of her dance suffered as a result of this. Urvasi, however, continued her dance, holding the bouquet lightly in her hand.

The performance came to a close and Vikramaditya declared Urvasi the winner. Indra requested the king to explain to him how he had judged the contest. Vikramaditya told Indra how he had used the bouquet to help him in deciding who was the better dancer of the two.

Indra was very pleased with Vikramaditya's wisdom. He gave orders to his servants to bring out the golden throne, which had been used for his coronation, and presented it to the king with the blessing that he would rule over his kingdom gloriously for two thousand years. He gave the king many other presents and ordered Matali to take the king and the golden throne to Ujjain.

Matali carried out Indra's orders. Vikramaditya returned to Ujjain and was warmly greeted by Bhatti and his subjects.

GRASS EATING TIGER

GRASS EATING TIGER
Sri Ramakrishna: "Before you came here, you didn't know who you were. Now you will know. It is God who, as the guru, makes one know. "Nangta told the story of the tigress and the herd of goats. Once a tigress attacked a herd of goats. A hunter saw her from a distance and killed her.
The tigress was pregnant and gave birth to a cub as she expired. The cub began to grow in the company of the goats. At first it was nursed by the she-goats, and later on, as it grew bigger, it began to eat grass and bleat like the goats. Gradually the cub became a big tiger; but still it ate grass and bleated.

When attacked by other animals, it would run away, like the goats. One day a fierce-looking tiger attacked the herd. It was amazed to see a tiger in the herd eating grass and running away with the goats at its approach. It left the goats and caught hold of the grass-eating tiger, which began to bleat and tried to run away.

But the fierce tiger dragged it to the water and said: 'Now look at your face in the water. You see, you have the face of a tiger; it is exactly like mine.' Next it pressed a piece of meat into its mouth. At first the grass-eating tiger refused to eat the meat. Then it got the taste of the meat and relished it.

At last the fierce tiger said to the grass-eater: 'What a disgrace! You lived with the goats and ate grass like them!' And the other was really ashamed of itself. "Eating grass is like enjoying 'woman and gold'. To bleat and run away like a goat is to behave like an ordinary man. Going away with the new tiger is like taking shelter with the guru, who awakens one's spiritual consciousness, and recognizing him alone as one's relative. To see one's face rightly is to know one's real Self."

TRAI TO TV CHANNELS

Not more than 12 minutes to ads per hour: TRAI to TV channels

NEW DELHI: Television channels will not be able to show advertisements for more than twelve minutes in an hour as per the latest regulations issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India today.

In a statement, TRAI said as per the Standards of Quality of Service Regulations 2012, "The duration of advertisements in the TV channels is to be limited to 12 minutes per clock hour."

Any shortfall of advertisement duration in any clock hour cannot be carried over, the telecom regulator said.

TRAI has also specified in its statement that the minimum time gap between any two consecutive advertisement breaks should not be less than 15 minutes while in case of movies, this time gap should be a minimum of 30 minutes.

The conditions shall not apply in case of live broadcast of a sporting event, it said.

"The advertisements during live broadcast of a sporting event should be only during the breaks in the sporting action," the TRAI statement said.

To make the viewer's TV watching experience better TRAI has also specified that advertisements should be only full screen.

"Part-screen and drop-down advertisements would not be permitted," the statement said.

To remove the possibility of an advertiser trying to use a higher sound level to grab attention, TRAI has incorporated another prohibitory regulation.

"The audio level of the advertisements carried in TV channels not to be higher than the audio level of the programmes being broadcast in the channel," the statement said.

A scholar and a Ferryman

One day, a scriptural scholar came to the edge a river and hired a ferryman to take him across in a boat. The scholar was proud of his intellectual learning and mistook such knowledge as being valuable in itself. The ferryman was simple and humble. While the boat was traveling across the river, the scholar started a conversation with the ferryman:

Scholar: “Well my friend, have you studied the Vedanta philosophy?”
Ferryman: “No sir, I have not.”
Scholar: “Oh, well then have you studied the school of logic?”
Ferryman: “No, I have not.”
Scholar: “Well surely then you must have at least studied the psychology of yoga?”
Ferryman: “No sir, I am an unlettered man.”

In this way the scholar kept on highlighting his own learning. Finally the scholar said:

Scholar: “Well, what can be done? It seems half your life has already been wasted.”

Just then, the waters of the river began to churn and became increasingly turbulent. The ferryman tried to control the boat, but it seemed that soon the boat would be capsized. The scholar began to get worried. Then the ferryman said:

Ferryman: “Learned sir, have you learned how to swim?”
Scholar: “No, I have not.”
Ferryman: “Well then. It seems your whole life is wasted! Good bye!”

With that, the ferryman dove out of the boat, and with all his might, started to swim for the shore.

THE THREE ROBBERS WITH IN YOU

PARABLE OF THE THREE ROBBERS
Sri Ramakrishna: "Let me tell you a story. Once a rich man was passing through a forest, when three robbers surrounded him and robbed him of all his wealth. After snatching all his possessions from him, one of the robbers said: 'What's the good of keeping the man alive? Kill him.

' Saying this, he was about to strike their victim with his sword, when the second robber interrupted and said: 'There's no use in killing him. Let us bind him fast and leave him here. Then he won't be able to tell the police.' Accordingly the robbers tied him with a rope, left him, and went away.

"After a while the third robber returned to the rich man and said: 'Ah! You're badly hurt, aren't you? Come, I'm going to release you.' The third robber set the man free and led him out of the forest. When .they came near the highway, the robber said, 'Follow this road and you will reach home easily.'

'But you must come with me too', said the man. 'You have done so much for me. We shall all be happy to see you at our home.' 'No,' said the robber, 'it is not possible for me to go there. The police will arrest me.' So saying, he left the rich man after pointing out his way.
"Now, the first robber, who said: 'What's the good of keeping the man alive? Kill him', is tamas. It destroys. The second robber is rajas, which binds a man to the world and entangles him in a variety of activities. Rajas makes him forget God. Sattva alone shows the way to God. It produces virtues like compassion, righteousness, and devotion.

Again, sattva is like the last step of the stairs. Next to it is the roof. The Supreme Brahman is man's own abode. One cannot attain the Knowledge of Brahman unless one transcends the three gunas."

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
There may be days when you get up in the morning and things aren’t the way you had hoped they would be.
That’s when you have to tell yourself that things will get better. There are times when people disappoint you and let you down.
But those are the times when you must remind yourself to trust your own judgments and opinions, to keep your life focused on believing in yourself.
There will be challenges to face and changes to make in your life, and it is up to you to accept them.
Constantly keep yourself headed in the right direction for you. It may not be easy at times, but in those times of struggle you will find a stronger sense of who you are.
So when the days come that are filled with frustration and unexpected responsibilities, remember to believe in yourself and all you want your life to be.
Because the challenges and changes will only help you to find the goals that you know are meant to come true for you.
Keep Believing in Yourself!
