627 year old living legend found in Kashmir

This living legend has been found at Chatargam, Chadoora in Budgam district of Kashmir and is claimed to have been planted in 1374 AD by a saint, Syed-Abul Qasim Shah Hamdani.
The tree's existence is now becoming a point of attraction for the heritage lovers. This Chinar was discovered by renowned environmentalist, Mohammad Sultan Wadoo.
District development commissioner (DDC), Budgam, Farooq Renzu along with director Tourism, Farooq Ahmad Shah on December 15, 2007 visited the site so that the valuable natural treasure is preserved and promoted as heritage tourist site.
The DDC announced Rs 1.50 lakh out of the District Development Fund for development of park around the heritage Chinar. He also assured and promised maintenance of the approach road and fencing around the Chinar.
Director Tourism said that his department would ensure that the site is promoted as a heritage point as it will encourage inflow of tourists to the area.
Environmentalist, Wadoo, while elaborating the research he undertook for discovering the natural treasure said that everybody has to contribute for preserving such natural assets for posterity, as our survival is subservient to preservation of natural wealth.
