Moderating messages
As group owner, you can choose
whether or not to review messages sent to your group before they are posted. To
do so, visit your group's homepage and click on the "Group settings"
link on the right side of the page. Next, click on the "Access" tab
and select one of the following "Message moderation" settings located
towards the bottom of the list.
- "No moderation - messages
are delivered directly" - you won't need to review any messages. When
someone sends a message to your group, it will be posted on the website and/or
emailed automatically. - "All messages are held for moderation" -
when anyone sends a message to your group, you'll need to approve it before it
goes live.
After you've made your choice,
be sure to click on the "Save Changes" button.
If you select "No
moderation" you'll also be able to place messages from new members on
moderation. Check the box next to "Messages from new members are
moderated," and you'll be able to review messages from the members who've
recently joined your group before they're posted.
To approve pending posts, click
the "Management tasks" link on the right side of the page. Under the
"Review pending messages" tab, you'll see the list of pending posts
you need to review. Click the subject line of each post to review it or click
the "expand all" link to see the full text of all pending messages at
once. After you've reviewed a message, select "Post" next the message
title. Click the "Moderate messages" button to send it to your group,
or select "Remove" and click "Moderate messages" to remove
the message.
It's now possible for owners and
managers to write an explanatory note when rejecting messages that were held
for moderation. This setting is on the "Group settings"|"Email
delivery" page. It should be noted that the text you input in the text box
on the "Email delivery" settings page only sets the default message
that gets suggested for you. When you are actually moderating a message from
the "Review pending messages" moderation queue page, you're allowed
to type in whatever you want for the note by clicking through to the actual
message. Finally, when sending the email indicating that a moderated message
has been denied, moderators can choose whether or not the email appears to come
from the groupname+owner@googlegroups.com or from their actual username/email
address.
